Burberry has always been known for its pioneering approach to fashion. From its invention of the water-resistant gabardine to its current role as a digital industry leader, the brand is synonymous with innovation and evolution. However, for its season's advertisement, Burberry takes a moment away from always looking forward to look back and reflect on its heritage with a short film, "The tale of Thomas Burberry", which depicts the life of founder Thomas Burberry, from young apprentice and inventor of weather-proof fabric, to supplier of uniforms for Sir Ernest Shackleton's Antarctic expedition and men in the trenches of WWI. Along the way, watch him fall in love under showers of rain and glitter, and then fall in love again with an ingénue to the heartbreak of his wife. The film rolls with stunning and dignified moments juxtaposed with outbursts of emotion, from lust to fear and anger, all played across dazzling scenery and a transcendent soundtrack. To achieve such an impressive feat, Burberry enlisted the help of stars such as Domhall Gleeson, Sienna Miller, Dominic West and Lily James, all directed by the award-winning Asif Kapadia. The culminated effort yields a spectacular result. "This Christmas, as we celebrate our 160th anniversary we wanted to tell the story of Thomas Burberry -pioneer, investor innovator and the man behind the iconic trench coat- in our own words", explains CEO/designer Christopher Bailey. “"The film we have made is a brief glimpse inspired by his full and extraordinary life, which threaded its way through the history of the 20th century in all its tumultuous highs and lows".
