Ma chi è questo ragazzo con un accento straniero ? Michael Vaiasinni aka Michael Leonardi (his mom’s maiden name) was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1990 to Sicilian parents. He started his career as a tenor when he was merely 15 years old, making his début as one of the main characters in the musical "Les Misérables " while studying at Sydney’s National Institute of Dramatic Art. He then completed his musical education by studying singing at Sydney’s AMusA and honing his craft with well-known artists such as Glenn Wynslade, Norma Fantini and Rockwell Blake. In 2008 he graduated from Sydney’s prestigious "Talent Development Project". He performed in a number of operatic productions, including G Bizet’s "Carmen" at the prestigious Sydney Theatre (2007), J Heggie’s "Dead man walking" at the State Theatre (2008), and V Bellini’s "La Sonnambula " at the Pacific Opera (2009). His concert activity has been equally intense. He sang at the presence of Pope Benedict XVI on the occasion of the World Youth Day held in Sydney in 2008. In 2010 he took part as a guest artist to the Festival Internazionale Giuseppe Verdi in Parma, Italy. That same year he performed in Modena, during a memorial concert in honor of the late Luciano Pavarotti, at the presence of the maestro’s family. Most recently he made an extremely successful appearance on Melbourne’s prestigious "Carols by Candlelight" concert, watched by no less than four million people. And he will début next week at the 66th Sanremo Music Festival with his first original song entitled "Rinascerai " ('You shall be born again'), a message for women to hope and overcome every difficulty he wrote a year ago, taking inspiration from the experience of a dear friend of his who was going through a very hard time in her life. "I wanted her to feel encouraged, to come out of the dark and go back to living in the sunlight", he explained. A first studio album is in the making too. But in the meanwhile, watch him donning Emporio Armani in his first video !
