The recent success of out artists like Sam Smith has potentially marked a new path for other queer artists to find mainstream visibility. Originally from Oakland, Christian Gabriel aka Chris Cali tried to make himself fit into a mainstream dynamic for years, singing about women and straight love. He released his début video for the haunting and emotional dance pop single “Never let me go” in 2013 (here on Morphosis). It wasn’t until penning his latest LP that he finally felt confident in his decision to throw off the burden of outside expectation and express himself truly by "not giving a fuck" ! He is pushing boundaries and challenging stereotypes, helping to usher in a new wave of creative voices that depict more varied portraits of LGBT experiences. Directed by Sailey Williams and also starring inked thug Rob DelRio, the video for "#IDGAF" takes reference from D’Angelo’s "Untitled" clip (there) which was so simple yet so effective and is obviously iconic in how it displayed his body. "That’s really one of the videos that stands out for me in objectifying a man the way women are so often objectified", said Chris Cali.
