Happiness is to be found when in pursuit of it, in the soothed expectation, on the way, not only upon the arrival. Accepting detours, just going the way, which is anyhow not this obvious to anyone.

Happiness is just a hairflip away.

A NEW CLIP EVERY WEEK HERE

"The way the system works now, you see the clothes, within an hour or so they're online, the world sees them. They don't get to a store for six months. The next week, young celebrity girls are wearing them on red carpets. They're in every magazine. The customer is bored with those clothes by the time they get to the store. They're overexposed, you're tired of them, they've lost their freshness".

Nuno Gama
Interview

Lestat : Who is Nuno Gama ?
Nuno : I was born on April 22, 1966 in Azeitão, Portugal. I moved to Porto when I was 20 to study fashion design at CITEX. I soon started working in the textile industry by developing many collections, for which I received several prizes, and selling my collections in selected stores in Lisbon and Oporto. I have long been a member of the original founders of ModaLisboa and PortugalFashion. I eventually started my own label in 1993. I participated in a series of national and international exhibits, notably "Mode Gitane " at the Louvre in Paris, and more recently at the "Hombres de Falda " exhibition in Madrid. I presented my collections in many countries, from Italy and Poland to Mozambique or Angola.
Lestat : I read your résumé, it's quite impressive ! How did you start your career ?
Nuno : I grew up very fast. Some years ago in Portugal, there weren't nice clothes for big people. So I began designing my own clothes, then selling them to my friends and relatives. I design menswear possibly because I can feel the clothes, men are much more exigent and rigorous than women, and also because Portugal is expert on it.
Lestat : What’s a working day like ?
Nuno : I wake up every day at 7ish, 8 to the gym, 9:30 heading to my atelier-slash-shop (same location). I have an assistant to help me design the three collections at the same time.
Lestat : Who/what inspires you most ?
Nuno : Love and passion for living are my muses. I love to live the marvellous adventure that life is. I’m always listening, observing, smelling and filtering those informations.
Lestat : How was the process of this season’s collection strangely entitled "Testocracia " ?
Nuno : "Testo-crats" are the new cosmopolitan dictators, making anatomical elitism the philosophical pillar of society. Here lies a cultural crossroads of the proclaimed testosterone of these champions, determining new codes of conduct. As if riding on the back of these urban centaurs, we watch in fascination the intoxicating arrival of male hormones, sports athletes, displaying their glorious barely clad bodies in different types of sportswear. Here we can see the proof of the elegance of classic handmade craftsmanship, comfort for relaxing and sports, masculine touches with references to the military and equestrian realms, culminating without a qualm in a healthy dose of leather. From this masculine adrenaline, full of heartfelt messages of love and passion for living, emerges a healthy silhouette of Testo-crats, powerful and virile, oscillating between slim and oversized fit, revealing physical hard labor and a skillful mix of garments, studied meticulously and comfortably. There are fabrics with subtle contrasts of dull and bright, satin and fur, undermixes of new blends of cottons and wools, in a fast pace of subtle revelations that individually value both the materials and the details. Almond, stone and celestial blue harmonize with a palette of brown, grey and green blends. Ablaze at times with a manly bull-blood red or reinvigorated by the energetic metallic brightness of gold, which reminds us that this contemporary man is in search of perfection.
Lestat : There is alot of fur…
Nuno : Indeed... I’m naturally against animal holocaust, but man also kills chickens and cows everyday as food, why not as protection ? Besides how many rivers -or even the rain- get polluted with all these chemicals used everywhere or even our garbage, or producing synthetic products like fake fur ?
Lestat : Indeed... What are your projects ?
Nuno : Conquer the world, that I hope is waiting to meet me !
Lestat : Is love important to you ?
Nuno : "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return".
Lestat : Quoting Nat King Cole in "Unforgettable" (or Toulouse-Lautrec in "Moulin Rouge"), kudos ! What do you wear to bed ?
Nuno : Nakedwear !
Lestat : Do you spend much time on the Internet ?
Nuno : Too much for my taste, but today is noblesse oblige.
Lestat : Answer the question you’d like to be asked.
Nuno : The last tee-shirt on every model of the show means 'Happy B-day Modalisboa', celebrating our 20th anniversary. It’s was a homage to all of us, for this long and hard work...
Lestat : Obrigado Nuno !
