This season's collection featured a curious combination of punk, goth and greaser menswear that actually makes perfect sense. After all, each subculture was the cool-but-outcast group of its decade, from 50s greasers to 80s punks and 90s goths -why not combine those into a hyper-subculture fashion collection to rule them all ? With long hair, tattoos, combat boots, hair necklaces, and plenty of black to go around, the Odyn Vovk collection has something for every subculture devotee. Austin Sherbanenko revealed in an interview he grew up in a small town 45 minutes outside of LA : "We had a little theater called the Showcase Theater, a punk rock/metal kind of thing. It attracted all these kids with the studs and all the slim pants, patches, mohawks, and long hair -a crazy culture of kids from multiple places being assholes, throwing bottles, and putting fireworks on cars. Now I have the chance to translate what I grew up around to now, and the market that seems to be attracted to my designs, that darker aesthetics".
The overall vibe of the collection was very street savvy, with layered tops, cape-like jackets, and loose fitting pants. Chains, slicked-back hair, dark make-up, and body tats completed the unique aesthetics of the label. Despite the messy appearance of many of the garments, the construction of the pieces were noticeably well-done. Mixing leather, cotton, and suede pieces, all done in dark colored fabrics, highlighted the extraordinary detail in each garment. The outfits all had an overall dramatic appearance; yet individual touches allow wearers to make the clothes reflect their own personal style.
