This is the first time Morphosis presents an underwear label as the designer du jour. But Sebastic is not just the average underwear label as you can guess.
The designer behind Sebastic, Sebastiaan Kramer was born in 1985 near Amsterdam in the Netherlands. When he was 15, he entered the ArtEz Academy of the Arts in Arnheim
(a school that is famous for its graduates such as Lukas Ossendrijver, Alexander van Slobbe, Viktor & Rolf, etc), where he graduated in 2005.
Sebastiaan Kramer is now still based in Arnheim, where he shares his office/studio and company Arnheim Fashion with his colleague Sjaak Hullekes. Arnheim Fashion was founded six months after they graduated and has been a company functioning as an umbrella for both of their menswear labels Sjaak Hullekes and Sebastic ever since. It is also the name under which they do freelance work for several other companies such as Tommy Hillfiger, Puma Dassler, Elle prêt-à-porter, Alexander van Slobbe and many more.
Sjaak Hullekes is a label with a classic style that offers a large range of different kinds of clothing every season, whereas Sebastic can be considered the first high-end menswear label with a strong focus on underwear, though shirts, sweaters, coats and pants are also parts of the Sebastic wardrobe. Both of their menswear labels were introduced in January 2007 by a fashion show held at the Amsterdam International Fashion Week.
For this season’s collection, Sebastiaan Kramer was inspired by the paintings of Henry Scott Tuke, Mangus Enckel and Eugene Jansson. It resulted in sober designs with a contemporary and yet nostalgic appearance, sophisticated silhouettes and über-chic undies. Sebastiaan Kramer uses the male body as the biggest inspiration in his design. This was shown within the collection by using mainly transparent fabrics to emphasize its brawn and worship its beauty. For some people, the refined use of lace, silk and see-through voile may be a big shock, but for others it surely is something they only could have dreamed of... They now can buy the dream.
