Making his début in Paris is the Croatian-born, German-educated, Antwerp-based Damir Doma, 27, who studied design in Berlin and graduated in 2004 with magna cum laude for the best collection. The young int’l designer (who worked under Raf Simons and Dirk Schoenberger in Antwerp) made a promising international start with a poetic Spring/Summer 2008 collection, which he presented at the Lutheran Cultural Center in the heart of Paris.
There are super skinny pants in pewter, shorts worn with shirts with unrefined edges. Black is obviously the color of choice used against a backdrop of ethnic sandals. Doma also put much focus into his volumes which should prove popular in certain Eastern European markets as well as in high profile Asian markets such as Tokyo. Also, look out for his waist-length cream, linen safari-inspired jacket with huge floor-sweeping lapels with black trims on the entire ensemble.
Damir Doma is remarkably talented and presents an ingenious and captive aesthetics. Mister D. mixed grunge with androgynous looks but avoided creating a feminine silhouette whatsoever. He evoked an unusual type of androgyny, much masculine and less “shocking”.
The rotten greenish leggings appear as a much iconic item since they represent the collision between femininity and masculinity. On one hand, you have a very typical female piece; and on the other hand, you have a masculine color usually associated with war which emphasizes the fact that the leggings are full of cuts and a wild vibe. On his latest line, Damir presented diverse layered looks which depict an ordinary looking young kid being different and inventive. The designer did a great job by choosing light fabrics and combining them in order to get structured outfits and a complex look.
